REGISTRATION: Online registration for this camp is open.

DEPOSIT: A non-refundable deposit of $100.00 per camp is due by April 20, 2020. This deposit is applied toward the camp tuition.

***You will not be asked to make a payment on your camp registration until the very last step. You will receive an on-screen confirmation of the camp registration first. This will include your Customer ID number which you should write down and keep.

BALANCE: The balance of all camp fees is due June 21, 2020. Any registrations not paid by this date are subject to cancellation. Any balances paid after this date will be payable by cash or credit card only - no personal checks will be accepted after this date or at camp check-in.

A native of New Zealand, Read Gainsford began full-time music study with top piano teachers, Janetta MacStay and Bryan Sayer, before receiving a grant from the Woolf Fisher Trust and the top prize in the Television New Zealand Young Musician of the Year. Gainsford then relocated to London, where he studied privately with Brigitte Wild, a protégée of Claudio Arrau, before winning a place in the Advanced Solo Studies course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied with Joan Havill, graduating with the prestigious Concert Recital Diploma (premier prix).

Read Gainsford has performed widely in the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa as solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. He has made successful solo debuts at the Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and has performed in many other venues, including the John F. Kennedy Center, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre, Fairfield Halls, Birmingham Town Hall and St-Martin-in-the-Fields. He has recorded for the Amoris label, BBC Radio Three, Radio New Zealand’s Concert Programme, and has broadcast on national television in New Zealand, the UK and Yugoslavia.

Gainsford moved to the United States in 1992 to enter the doctoral program at Indiana University, where he worked with Karen Shaw and Leonard Hokanson. Since that time he has been guest artist for the American Music Teachers Association and has also given numerous recitals, concerto performances and master-classes. He has appeared at the Gilmore Keyboard Festival and the Music Festival of the Hamptons, spent several summers at the Heifetz International Music Institute, is a member of the contemporary music group Ensemble X, and the Garth Newel Chamber Players. Gainsford has also enjoyed working with such musicians as Jacques Zoon, William Vermuelen, Roberto Diaz, Eddie vanOosthuyse and Luis Rossi. Formerly on the faculty of Ithaca College, where he received the college-wide Excellence in Teaching Award in 2004, Gainsford joined the piano faculty at Florida State University in 2005.

Stijn De Cock, Assistant Professor of Piano, hailed for his passionate and virtuosic piano playing by the East Hampton Star, maintains an active musical career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teaching artist in the United States and abroad. His playing has been described as “alternating between the stormy and sublime, while getting to the heart of the music” and was praised for its ability to create “a most compelling musical narrative” (Amalfi Festival concert review). In recent years, Dr. De Cock’s concert seasons have included concerts on four continents, from the North America to Europe, Asia, and Africa. As the founding director or the Brancaleoni International Music Festival, Dr. De Cock has created a large-scale international summer festival in Italy that offers a unique, intensive, and integrated artistic learning environment to aspiring young pianists, singers, and string players from around the world. Dr. De Cock has taught and held faculty positions at the State University of New York Fredonia, University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, the University of Michigan, Schoolcraft College, and Albion College. He holds an undergraduate degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, and a Master’s and Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan.

David Kalhous is increasingly gaining recognition and critical acclaim in the United States and Europe for his wide-ranging repertoire and adventurous programming spanning more than three centuries. He has appeared as a soloist with Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK, Prague Philharmonia, Israel Symphony Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic, and Chamber Philharmonia Pardubice. As a recitalist and a chamber musician, he performed at the Prague Spring Festival, Gilmore Keyboard Festival, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Music Series, Czech Radio's Studio Live Rising Stars Series. In New York City, he appears at Bargemusic, Symphony Center, and Spectrum; in Chicago, at PianoForte Foundation and Constellation. Kalhous regularly performs, lectures, and teaches masterclasses at leading American, European, and Israeli universities and conservatories. He has recorded for Czech Radio and Television, and has written, produced, and hosted programs devoted to piano music for Prague’s Classic FM Radio. David Kalhous’ interest in new music has resulted in collaboration with many composers who have dedicated works to him. He regularly performs with Fonema Consort in Chicago and Konvergence in Prague. He gave the debut performance of Ligeti's piano Études and Feldman's For Bunita Marcus in Prague, and is preparing a CD of eight newly commissioned works for piano. David Kalhous studied at the Prague Conservatory with Jaroslav Čermák. He subsequently attended Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Rubin Academy of Music at Tel-Aviv University, and Yale University, and studied with Paul Badura Skoda, Emil Leichner, Victor Derevianko, David Northington, and Peter Frankl. He also worked with Jerome Lowenthal at the Music Academy of the West. David Kalhous holds a DMA from Northwestern University, where he worked with Ursula Oppens. He previously taught at Texas Tech University School of Music.

Associate Professor of Piano Heidi Louise Williams joined the piano faculty at the Florida State University College of Music in 2007. Her growing roster of graduate and undergraduate students have won prizes regionally, nationally, and internationally, and are actively gaining employment in teaching and performing roles in the United States and abroad. Williams completed her BM, MM, and DMA degrees at Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, where she studied with renowned pianist Ann Schein and coached chamber music with Earl Carlyss, Samuel Sanders, Stephen Kates, and Robert McDonald. She is artist-faculty for the MasterWorks Summer Music Festival and has also taught at the Interharmony International Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy.

Praised by New York critic Harris Goldsmith for her ‘impeccable soloistic authority’ and ‘dazzling performances’, Professor Williams has appeared in solo and chamber music performances across the United States and abroad, winning numerous prizes. Her 2011 solo debut CD released on Albany Records, Drive American, was featured in Fanfare’s 2012 Critics’ Want Lists, named among the top 10 classical albums of 2011 in the Philadelphia City Paper, and described as ‘veritably operatic’, ‘bold yet thoughtful’, ‘provocative and stimulating’ (Fanfare), possessing ‘…the muscularity and poetic power to bring this demanding repertory to life’ (American Record Guide). An avid chamber musician, Williams has collaborated with many outstanding American and international artists. She has recorded solo, concerto and chamber music for the Albany, Naxos, and Neos labels, and has also worked with many distinguished composers.

If a registered student becomes unable to attend camp for any reason AND camp administration received a written refund request, the following refund policy will apply:

• Written notice received in camp office 10 or more business days(Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm) prior to the first day of camp: Full refund of tuition and housing less the $100.00 deposit.
• Written notice received in camp office 1-9 business days(Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm) prior to the first day of camp: Refund of tuition only less the $100.00 deposit.
• As of 5:00pm on the night before camp check-in: No refunds of any kind.

Accepted forms of written notification include:

• Letters mailed to the camp administration office at FSU Summer Music Camps, PO BOX 3061180, Tallahassee, FL 32306 and RECEIVED in our office according to the policy above.
• Email sent to the camp administration office at musiccamps@fsu.edu.  Please be sure to get a reply confirming that we received you email request and that your refund is being processed.
• Letters faxed to the camp administration office at 850-644-5257.

All of the above methods must be RECEIVED in our office according to the Refund Policy. Please be sure to get a confirmation from our office indicating that your request to cancel was received and that the refund is being processed.

Once you are registered to attend camp, you will need to complete your Camp Forms. The packet includes the required consent forms, a medical form, an elective preference form, a housing and dining form, and order forms for optional services. Filling out these forms as soon as possible will help us provide you with a great camp experience.

You can fill out these forms online or send them back by mail. We ask that you provide this information as soon as possible, but the deadline to submit all forms and requests is MAY 25.

If you are coming to more than one camp, you only need to fill out this information once.
