THOMAS
WRIGHT, Professor of Piano, received the
B.M. degree from Butler University and the
M.M. degree from Indiana University. While
pursuing advanced studies at Columbia University,
he became staff pianist for the NBC television
network. He later was musical director for
a daily radio show on the Mutual Network
and also served the motion picture industry
in Hollywood as a musical consultant. As
a noted specialist in the music of Gershwin,
he founded the Gershwin Festival Concerts
at Florida State University. He continues
to play concerts throughout the United States
and to solo with symphony orchestras. Named
to "Outstanding Educators of America"
in 1975, Wright received the "Faculty
of the Year" award at FSU in the same
year, the Panhellenic Professor of the Year
in 1988, a University teaching award in
1991, the Phi Eta Sigma award for teaching
excellence in 1994 and 1995, and the Panhellenic
IFC Outstanding Educator of the Year award
in 1993 and 1995.
