JOHN K. SOUTHALL is the Community Endowed Teaching Chair in Fine Arts and serves as coordinator of Music Education/Therapy and Director of Bands at Indian River Community College. Dr. Southall also serves as a courtesy associate Professor of Music Education/Therapy at the Florida State University, and is the Director of the Honors Chamber Winds program for the FSU Summer Music Camps. Dr. Southall received the bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, the master’s degree from Florida State University, and the Ph.D. from Florida State University. He has served on the faculties of The University of Missouri-St Louis, Nova Southeastern University, and Broward Community College and as the Music Curriculum Specialist (K-12) for the Broward County School district in Florida. He has also served as Director of Bands at Western, Piper, and Ely High Schools in Broward County. During his career, he has served as Chairman of the Broward County Band Directors Association, the Broward Music Educators Association and as District Chairman of the Florida Bandmasters Association. In addition, he has served on numerous FBA standing committees. Dr. Southall has been an active guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, across the southeastern United States and has also published in national and state journals.
