NANCY ROGERS, Assistant Professor of Music Theory, has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including both common-practice and post-tonal theory and analysis, aural skills, practical keyboard harmony, music cognition, and music theory pedagogy. She has been nominated for both graduate and undergraduate teaching awards at FSU, and in 2004 she was named a "WebStar" for her development of online course materials.
With research interests including music cognition and its pedagogical implications, Dr. Rogers has presented papers at national, international, and regional conferences. Her recent publications may be found in Em Pauta, Music Theory Online, and the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy. The seventh edition of “Music for Sight Singing” (Prentice-Hall), which she co-authored with Robert W. Ottman, was published in 2006.
Professor Rogers is currently Secretary of the Society for Music Theory; she was also recently elected President of Music Theory Southeast. She previously served as Treasurer of Music Theory Midwest and as a member of the SMT's Committee for the Status of Women. Before coming to Florida State University, she served on the faculties of Northwestern University, the University of Iowa, and Lawrence University.
Professor Rogers received a Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music, where she won both school-wide and university-wide teaching awards. She also holds the M.M. in music theory from the University of Michigan, the B.M. in music theory and composition from Northwestern University, and the B.A. in linguistics from Northwestern University. Dr. Rogers is a Mellon Fellow in the Humanities. |
