GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
There are three types of scholarships offered by the Summer Music Camps:
1. Ability Scholarships
2. Event Scholarships
3. Matching Scholarships

You may only receive ONE type of scholarship per camp.
Please read through the guidelines for each type of scholarship. Some information has changed from past years.


TYPE 1: ABILITY SCHOLARSHIPS

By sending in a recorded audition tape, you may apply for an Ability Scholarship ranging in value from $50.00 to $200.00. The number of scholarships awarded changes annually and is based on available funding.

ABILITY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES

•Ability Scholarships are available for Senior High Band Camp, Middle School Band Camp, Choral Ensemble Camp and String Orchestra Camp.

•You can only receive ONE type of scholarship per camp: Ability, Event or
Matching.

•Applicants will be notified of results in writing at the end of May. NOTE: If you are auditioning for an Honors Camp, you will automatically be considered for an ability scholarship. You do not need to apply separately unless you are planning to attend two camps, one of which is not an honors camp, and you would like to seek a scholarship to that second camp.

ABILITY SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Complete the application form
2. Create a CD or Cassette Tape Recording (see below for musical requirements).
3. Send the form and recording to the address on the bottom of the applications form,
postmarked no later than April 7, 2008.

Audition materials will not be returned.

ABILITY SCHOLARSHIP RECORDING INSTRUCTIONS:
RECORD ONLY ON CD OR CASSETTE. NO DVD OR VHS TAPES
CLEARLY MARK YOUR RECORDING WITH YOUR NAME, PHONE NUMBER & CAMP

For All Instrumentalists (except percussion & rhythm bass) please record:
•Two pieces in contrasting styles
(examples: one up-tempo & one lyrical; one swing & one classical)
•Two scales of your choice

For All Percussionists & Rhythm Bass:

•Two pieces of your choice
(we encourage you to record pieces with an ensemble rather than solo)

For Vocalists*
•Two songs of contrasting classical
or operatic style.
(example: one art song & one aria)
*Vocal auditions may be with or without piano accompaniment


TYPE 2. EVENT SCHOLARSHIPS

If you attended one of the following events AND you appear in the concert program of performers, you are eligible to apply for a $100.00 scholarship:
• 2008 Florida All-State Conference
• 2007 FSU Tri-State Festival
• 2008 FSU High School Jazz Festival

EVENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES
:
•Event Scholarship funds are limited. You are not necessarily guaranteed an event scholarship by sending in this form!
Scholarships will be given out on a rolling (first come-first serve) basis starting in March.
•Event Scholarships are available to all camps EXCEPT workshops.
•You can only receive ONE type of scholarship per camp: Ability, Matching OR Event.
•You can only receive ONE event scholarship per camp.
•YOU MUST ATTEND CAMP ON THE SAME INSTRUMENT YOU PLAYED AT THE EVENT.

EVENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
•To apply, please complete the application form and return it to the address on the bottom of the form.



TYPE 3. MATCHING SCHOLARSHIPS

Honors and Large Ensemble Camps offer a Matching 2 to 1 Scholarship to students who have received scholarship money from an accredited organization. Examples of accredited organizations include Lions Club, school boosters clubs, arts organizations, fraternal organizations, etc. Individual/Private scholarships do not qualify. The Matching 2 to 1 Scholarship will contribute $.50 for every $1.00 an accredited organization awards the student up to a maximum of $45.00 for one week camps and $95.00 for two week camps.

MATCHING SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

•Matching Scholarship funds are limited. You are not necessarily guaranteed a matching scholarship! Scholarships will be given out on a rolling basis starting in March.
•Matching Scholarships are available to all camps EXCEPT workshops.
•You can only receive ONE type of scholarship per camp, either Ability, Matching OR Event.
•Application Deadline is two weeks prior to the start of your camp.

MATCHING SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS:

1. The accredited organization must send a letter on their letterhead requesting the matching funds - NO LATER THAN 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START OF YOUR CAMP
Within the body of the letter, they should include: the amount of the award, their contact
information, the student’s full name and address, the students phone number and the camp the student is attending.

2. A copy of the check from the accredited organization.
