enhakē PERFORMS IN THE ICMEC 1ST PRIZE WINNERS CONCERT AT CARNEGIE HALL'S WEILL RECITAL HALL

New York, NY 26 May 2008 - Florida State University's student group enhakē (Jayoung Kim, cello; Wonkak Kim, clarinet, Eun-Hee Park, piano, M. Brent Williams, violin) made its successful Carnegie Hall debut to critical acclaim in the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition (ICMEC) Winners Concert at Weill Recital Hall. The performance came as a result of being awarded First Prize in their division at the 2008 ICMEC, presented by the Chamber Music Foundation of New England, and featured a finale performance of John Mackey's "Breakdown Tango."  Other notable groups who performed at the concert included the Alianza String Quartet, a grand-prize winner of the 2007 Plowman Competition from Yale University, and Vinca String Quartet, a prizewinner at the 2005 Fischoff Competition. The concert was followed by an award ceremony in which the winners received gold medals and certificates of award on the Weill Recital Hall stage.

The 2008 ICMEC attracted more than seventy chamber ensembles that included musicians from Italy, Argentina, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Canada, Israel and the United States. The ensembles came from the most prestigious musical institutions, such as the New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Yale University, Eastman School of Music, Mannes College of Music, Rice University--Shepherd School of Music and many others. Past first prizewinners include Sergey Antonov, a recent gold medal winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. This year's competition was partly supported by internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso and recording artist Gidon Kremer.

The ICMEC auditions were held at Boston University in April and May of this year. Groups competed in five age groups, and chamber music categories including: piano duos and trios, sonata duos, jazz and folk ensembles, and ensembles with winds, strings, and voice. The first prizewinners performed in an award concert on May 26 in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, while the second and third prizewinners appeared May 24, 2008 at The First Church in Boston.
