JAMES NALLEY, Assistant Professor of Piano

Performances have taken James Nalley to almost every state in the continental U.S., as well as Canada and Europe. Upcoming performances include Latin America (Nicaragua), England (Artist in Residence –Reading Festival), and multiple venues in Italy. After his solo recital Debut at the Boyle Arts Festival in Ireland, The Irish Times said “was a recital not to miss!” He has been invited to return twice. A recent interview in the PianoForte Magazine of Korea named James Nalley “one of the latest U.S. pianists to watch.” In the summer, he is also the Artist-Faculty in Residence at the Schlern International Music Festival and Academy in the Italian Alps.

James is the winner of many national and international competitions, and made his New York Debut in Carnegie Hall to great acclaim. He has performed for many radio broadcasts and PBS performances, including the Bravo Channel in Canada and the BBC in England and Northern Ireland. He has appeared as soloist with many of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony.

Equally active in chamber music, he is a popular guest at many festivals, including the Taos Chamber Music Festival in New Mexico, New Orleans International Festival and the Boyle Arts Festival in Ireland. He has collaborated with some of the world’s finest chamber groups which include the Inman Trio, the Muir String Quartet, and the Shanghai String Quartet.

A native of Philadelphia, James is a summa cum laude graduate of Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music and the Eastman School of Music where he received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

As Artist in Residence at the Banff Centre in Canada, James recorded a CD of the Charles Ives Sonata No. 1/Aaron Copland Piano Sonata. This CD was released with great success, and the American Record Guide called it “Remarkably played… a revelation…This recording is a real treasure.” His second recording was released internationally (works of Schubert and Liszt) again for the Eroica label. E-Music Magazine called it “amenable and remarkable….. and if you think you have heard it all with the Schubert B-flat Sonata, take a listen to this disc!” He is currently on the roster of Recording Artists for the Eroica Record Label, listed in the Who’s Who of Professional Artists, the Fulbright Senior Specialists roster and represented by Lois Scott Management in New York.
