VICTORIA
McARTHUR, Program Director of Piano Pedagogy
and Coordinator of Group Piano, has taught
all levels and ages of students from preschool
through college.
For
many years, she was Director of McArthur
and Musical Associates, a comprehensive
piano studio offering private and group
instruction to students in piano, theory,
and music appreciation. She was the Founding
Editor for The FJH Music Co., and has authored
over thirty books for FJH, including the
popular piano method, Piano Adventures
(authored with Nancy and Randall Faber).
She currently is Keyboard Editor for Alfred
Publishing Co., Los Angeles, where she continues
authoring and editing piano publications,
including Alfred’s Premier Piano
Course. For 12 years, Dr. McArthur
was music review editor for the prestigious
journal, Piano and Keyboard (formerly
The Piano Quarterly).
McArthur
received the Ph.D. in Music Education (emphasis
in piano pedagogy research) from Florida
State University. She has pursued postgraduate
work in biomechanics (movement science)
and motor psychology. She has lectured at
national and international conferences about
far-ranging topics, including motivation,
pianists’ movement patterns, pianists’
injuries, sight reading, computers in music
teaching, and practice strategies. This
research continues through the Center for
Music Research. She has also written a chapter
on sight reading in the Oxford University
Press publication, The Science and Psychology
of Music Performance. |
