Marching Band Leadership Camp

Sunday, July 8 - Friday, July 13, 2012

The FSU Marching Band Leadership Camp reaches beyond the basics to build team leaders with comprehensive music and leadership skills. We provide a unique experience for any student wishing to be involved with their high school marching unit, and have trained many of the finest drum majors and student leaders in the Southeast. Instruction will incorporate all drum major styles with an emphasis on developing leadership skills, and conducting styles and techniques. Campers will work on communication skills, group dynamics, score analysis, block drills and more. All instructors at this camp are former drum majors of the FSU Marching Chiefs.

 Instructors and staff at this camp are all former drum majors of the FSU Marching Chiefs. Students will work on leadership skills, communication skills and group dynamics. Instruction will incorporate diverse drum major styles and will introduce basic as well as advanced conducting techniques, score analysis, block drills and more. A sample daily schedule has been provided below. Each evening, students can participate in recreational activities. This camp does not include a color guard component but color guard members are welcome to attend for the leadership training.

This camp will require outdoor activity in hot summer conditions.

Camp Details

Registration is open!
Eligibility Campers must have attended grades 9-12 in the ‘11-’12 school year and have one year of high school marching band experience.
(Rising 9th graders during summer 2012 are not eligible).
Ability Level Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced drum majors, section leaders, band captains and other leadership personnel with at least one year of high school marching band experience.
Cost for Day Campers $235.00
Includes tuition only. No housing or meals.
Cost for Overnight Campers $396.00
Cost includes tuition ($235) and housing with three meals per day ($161).
Camp Check-In Sunday, July 8, 2012
11:00am-3:00pm (EST)
All campers must attend check-in. If you can not arrive during the designated times due to extenuating circumstances, arrangements must be made in advance with the camp office.
Camp Check-Out Friday, July 13, 2012
A final pass & review will be held on this day. Check-out will follow this event.
Audition Required? No audition required.

Instruments: All campers, except drummers, must bring their marching instrument to camp. Drummers should bring sticks only. (Instruments are needed for score interpretation and preparation lessons.)

Pass & Review: Friday, July 13 - 2:30pm

All campers will participate in the pass & review.

Important Things to Note
  • This camp does not include a color guard component; however, color guard participants are welcome to attend camp for leadership training.
  • Students must register for this camp individually according to the registration instructions on page 22-23. In circumstances where a band director or booster organization would like to pay on behalf of students, please ensure that all of the students have registered for camp and then call the camp office at 850-644-9934 so that we can assist you.
