Honors Chamber Winds Camp

The Honors Chamber Winds Camp provides a unique opportunity for fifteen musicians who seek an exceptional summer experience. Two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two trumpets, one trombone, one tuba, and three horns are selected by audition to work on a collegiate level with FSU faculty members. In addition to regular practice and instruction, all campers will perform in quintets specializing in music for small wind ensembles. Campers at this camp also create the wind section of the Symphony Orchestra.

If you are looking for advanced, pre-collegiate instruction this is the camp for you!

Auditions are required for this camp. Recorded auditions must be postmarked by March 11, 2013. Please see below for detailed information.

Camp Details

Registration is by audition
Eligibility Campers must have attended grades 9-12 in the ‘12-’13 school year.
(Rising 9th graders during summer 2013 are not eligible).
Ability Level Advanced.
Cost for Day Campers $0.00
There is no tuition cost for this camp if you are accepted.
Cost for Overnight Campers $395.00
There is no tuition cost for this camp. Cost includes housing with three meals per day.
Camp Check-In Sunday, June 23, 2013
9:00am-12:00pm (EST)
All campers must attend check-in. If you can not arrive during the designated times due to extenuating circumstances, arrangements must be made in advance with the camp office.
Camp Check-Out Saturday, July 6, 2013

Yes. Deadline to postmark recorded audition materials is March 11, 2013.

AUDITION GUIDELINES:
All recorded auditions must be postmarked by March 11, 2013.
 
DO NOT SEND PAYMENTS OR REGISTRATION FORMS with your audition. You can NOT register for this camp until after you have been notified of your acceptance. A special registration form will be mailed to you with your acceptance notification. Any payments sent with this audition application will be returned.

Your audition will also be reviewed for an Ability Discount to Senior High Band Camp in the event that you are not accepted to Honors Chamber Winds. You do NOT need to send a separate tape for Senior High Band Camp Ability Discount.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS:
To submit a recorded audition, please follow the instructions below:

  • Make a recording on a CD or Cassette Tape only. NO DVD, NO VHS and NO MINI AUDIO TAPES. Clearly mark your CD or tape with your name, phone number and "Chamber Winds".
  • The recording must include the following:
    • Two pieces of contrasting style
      (ex. one up-tempo & one lyrical)
    • Two scales of your choice
  • Write a brief, 1 page resumé detailing your playing experience. This may include school experience, special performances, other camps you have attended, private lesson experience and any other pertinent musical details. Click here for a sample resumé.
  • Download and fill out the application form.
  • Mail the recording, resumé and application form, postmarked by March 11, 2013, to:

There will also be a placement audition on check-in day to determine your quintet assignment and an optional audition during camp for the Honors Solo Recital.

How to Register

You can not register for this camp unless you have auditioned and received notice of your acceptance. A special registration form will be sent to you if you are accepted. DO NOT SEND MONEY WITH YOUR AUDITION.

If you plan to attend Senior High Band Camp in the event that you are not accepted to Honors Chamber Winds, please WAIT TO REGISTER until AFTER you have received notice of our decision. There will be a spot available for you at that time.

Available Discounts

Because there is no tuition for this camp, there are no discounts available.

However, if you are planning to attend Senior High Band Camp as your second choice if you are not accepted to this camp, the Ability Discount may apply:

Ability Discount: Your audition recording will be automatically review for an Ability Discount for Senior High Band Camp if you are not accepted to Chamber Winds. You do not need to send in a separate application for a Senior High Band Camp Ability Discount.

Instruments All campers must bring their own instrument to camp.

Concert Schedule

Concert times are subject to change.

  • Honors Solo Recital**:
    Wednesday, July 3 - 7:30pm
  • Chamber Winds Ensemble Concert:
    Thursday, July 4 - 8:00pm
  • Orchestra Concert:
    Saturday, July 6 - 9:00am

All students will perform on Thursday and Saturday. 

Campers wishing to perform in the Honors Solo Recital must audition.

Important Things to Note
  • Camp will continue as regularly scheduled on July 4th. Campers will be expected to participate in all scheduled camp activities.
  • Optional private lessons are available for an additional fee. These can only be arranged and paid for on check-in day.
