Band Camp for MIDDLE SCHOOL
Sunday, July 7 - Saturday, July 13, 2013
During one amazing week, middle school students can experience what it is like to be on their own, to make new friends, and to have new experiences all while developing their skills as a musician. Whether they have just started learning an instrument or have been taking lessons for years, the Middle School Band Camp provides a non-competitive but challenging environment where campers of all ability levels can learn and perform. Campers will play in one of three concert bands and will attend daily classes that include band rehearsals, sectional and master classes, music theory, and an elective class.
A band campers’ musical day begins at 8:00am and ends at 5:00pm. Each day is divided into eight class periods and includes an hour break for lunch. On check-in day, each student will complete a placement audition which will place them into one of three concert bands. A sample daily schedule has been provided below.
This camp provides students an opportunity to receive exceptional instruction on the instrument that they love, but it also enables them to try something new during their elective class. Some choices include steel pan ensemble, jazz improvisation, world music, or conducting. A full listing of elective class descriptions can be found by clicking here. Students will be sent information about selecting an elective class after they are registered.
Private lessons are available for an additional fee. Sign up for private lessons is only done at camp check-in. More information about private lessons is available in the Parent & Camper handbook and also by clicking here.
Campers put down their instruments at 5:00pm, but the day isn’t over yet! Each evening, students can participate in recreational activities such as bowling, swimming, movie nights, ice cream socials, game nights, and more. Official recreation schedules are handed out at camp check-in, but you can click here for a sample schedule.
Performance opportunities are also an integral part of the camp experience. All Middle School Band Camp students will perform in a public performance on the last day of camp.
