Mary Roman

Mary Brigid Roman, Associate Professor of Harp at The Florida State University College of Music, heads one of oldest harp departments in the country. After receiving the B.M. and M.M. degrees from the Eastman School of Music, she joined the faculty in 1968. Since then she has appeared as a soloist and collaborated with Albert Tipton and Charles DeLaney in chamber music for flute and harp, throughout the Southeast.

As an orchestral harpist, she has performed under such conductors as Dorati, Gould, Kachaturian, Shaw, and Stravinsky. Currently she is principal harpist with the North Florida Symphony Orchestra and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.

Concurrently with her position at Florida State, she has served as adjunct faculty for Valdosta State University, Stetson University and Mercer University.

Ms. Roman has served as a competition judge and member of the Board of Directors of the American Harp Society. Her articles have appeared in The Instrumentalist and the American Harp Journal. She has edited and published works of harpist/composer Alfred Holy, and recorded them on compact disc.
