Fall 2013 Deadlines for Thesis/Treatise/Dissertation Writers

RE: Fall 2013 Deadlines for Thesis/Treatise/Dissertation Writers
Please note the following deadline dates for application for graduation and for submission of theses/treatises/dissertations to supervisory committees and the Graduate Clearance Advisor. Please ensure that the requirements of the Guidelines for Thesis, Treatise, and Dissertation Writers, available from Gradspace,through The Graduate School in 314 Westcott, are followed to the letter. In addition, all current electronic submission procedures must be followed. Please visit Gradspace for more information. Students should also pick up and follow the College of Music Treatise and Dissertation Handbook from the College of Music Graduate Office, 204-A HMU.
The University Bulletin requires that the completed preliminary draft of the dissertation be submitted to each member of the supervisory committee at least four (4) weeks before the date of the oral examination. The revised,final version (including table of contents, musical examples, bibliography, and abstract--for dissertations) should be in the hands of each committee member at least one (1) week prior to the scheduled defense.
It is recommended that students defend no later than the 8th week of classes in the semester of intent to graduate. Students MUST defend by no later than the Initial Format Submission & Defense Deadline in the semester of intent to graduate.
The deadline for doctoral students who have passed their preliminary exams and wish to convert DIS’s and similar courses to dissertation or treatise is Monday, December 9, at 5:00pm.
The Fall 2013 deadlines are, as-follows:

| Last day for doctoral students to take and pass their preliminary examination in order to add or convert DIS credits to dissertation hours for the current semester. | October 11 (FIRM) |
| Preliminary draft of completed document to all committee members. | September 3 (suggested) |
| Committee returns corrected preliminary draft to candidate. | October 7 (suggested) |

FINAL copy of document in hands of committee (must be at least one week prior to the scheduled defense) | October 21 (suggested) |
