Jazz Studies
Welcome to the Jazz Studies Home Page at the Florida State University College of Music. This page is designed to provide you with information on the Jazz Studies curricula in the College of Music.
The Jazz Studies program at Florida State provides a wide variety of opportunities for students who are interested in pursuing a career in jazz performance and/or teaching, and offers a full curriculum of study from theory, arranging, music business, jazz history, jazz pedagogy, and film scoring, to private instruction on jazz drum set, bass, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar and piano. Three large ensembles (big bands) provide a focus on the performance of music ranging from Fletcher Henderson and Duke Ellington to Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, while smaller chamber groups (combos) encourage student improvisation and provide a focus on the essence of small group interaction and the performance of standard and original works.
Please contact Mr. Leon Anderson if you require further assistance. Mr. Anderson can be reached at (850) 644-1048 or by FAX at (850) 644-2033. Thank you for your interest.
