Scholarships and Funding

In addition to being one of the Best Value Colleges in the nation (#5, U.S. News & World Report 2021), FSU and the College of Music offer a variety of funding opportunities to assist students with financing their education. All music majors are automatically considered for College of Music scholarships based on their admissions application and audition or interview.

International Student Admissions
  1. All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations.
  2. International students whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency in the form of an approved exam. Required scores listed below. Graduate applicants, please note that College of Music standards exceed those of the university.

          • Masters: 80; Doctoral: 97

        Additionally, to be eligible for a graduate assistantship:

        • Students must score a minimum of 26 on the speaking portion of the IBTOEFL or;
        • Achieve a score of 50 on the SPEAK Test (offered by FSU) to qualify for a graduate assistantship.

Group Piano Placement and Exemption Exam

What is the purpose of this exam?

This exam will help you and the examiners determine your entry level into the Group Piano Program at Florida State. If you are entering your first semester of Group Piano at FSU and choose not to take the exam, you will automatically sign up for MVK 1111 A.

When is the exam administered?

Placement exams are offered on the Friday prior to start of Fall term in the Longmire Building (LON 403) from 2:30 until 5:00 pm. No appointment is necessary. An online option on a different day is also available. Exams are administered on a first come, first served basis, and will last approximately 10 minutes. Who should take the exam?

Students with prior keyboard experience, whose degree programs require one or more semesters of class piano. (Check the curriculum guide for your major to determine the piano requirement for your major.) Keyboard majors do not need to take this exam.

Transfer students with Class Piano credit should consult Dr. Hunt regarding transfer evaluations.
