Senior High Band Camp
Sunday, June 24 - Saturday July 7, 2012
The Senior High Band Camp offers a comprehensive music experience focused on developing the player in addition to developing playing techniques. At this two-week intensive camp, campers will perform with one of three concert bands and attend daily classes that include rehearsals, music theory, sectional and master classes, and an elective class. This camp provides an opportunity for students to receive exceptional instruction on the instrument that they love and to try something new - like steel pan ensemble, jazz improvisation, world music, or conducting.
A full listing of elective class descriptions can be found by clicking here. Students will be sent information about selecting an elective class after they are registered.
A band campers’ musical day begins at 8:00am and ends at 5:00pm. Each day is divided into eight class periods and includes an hour break for lunch. On check-in day, each student will complete a placement audition which will place them into one of three concert bands. A sample daily schedule has been provided below.
Private lessons are available for an additional fee. Sign up for private lessons is only done at camp check-in. More information about private lessons is available in the Parent & Camper handbook and also by clicking here.
Campers put down their instruments at 5:00pm, but the day isn’t over yet! Each evening, students can participate in recreational activities such as bowling, swimming, movie nights, ice cream socials, game nights and more. Official recreation schedules are handed out at camp check-in, but you can click here for a sample schedule.
Performance opportunities are also an integral part of the camp experience. Students at the Senior High Band Camp will perform in two public performances; one on the first Saturday of the camp and one on the last day of the camp. They may also perform in an elective class concert and our elite Honors Solo Recital. Honors Solo Recital performers are selected by audition process. Details about all camp placement auditions and the honors solo recital auditions will be mailed to each camper after they are registered.
