Audition Information for Concert Bands

Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Concert Band

When the semester begins on a Monday, auditions are held on the first two days of classes in the Housewright Music Building. Each individual instrument is scheduled for a block of time (typically 2 to 4 hours) during this two day period. Specific days, times, and locations are posted in the Housewright Music Building several days before the audition. Students must sign-up for a specific audition time.

Audition music is determined by the studio faculty for each instrument and is different every semester. This music is often available on-line, or hard copies may be obtained in HMU 101. Details about audition music are available in HMU 101 or by calling 644-3507. Music is typically made available at the end of the semester PRIOR to the new audition sequence. (That is, music for Fall Semester auditions is usually available in April; music for Spring Semester is usually available in December.)

There is only one audition for all of the concert bands. The actual assignment of a student to a particular ensemble is done by the studio teacher and one of the ensemble conductors. Students are advised to keep some flexibility in their schedules so that the assigned ensemble may be added AFTER the audition.

When the semester begins on a day other than a Monday, the above procedure is altered to fit the current calendar. Call 644-3507 for detailed information.
