Spring 2012 Deadlines for Thesis/Treatise/Dissertation Writers

Pleasenote the following deadline dates for application for graduation and forsubmission of theses/treatises/dissertations to supervisory committees and theGraduate Clearance Advisor.   Pleaseensure that the requirements of the Guidelinesfor Thesis, Treatise, and Dissertation Writers, available from Gradspace,through The Graduate School in 408 Westcott, are followed to the letter.  In addition, all current electronicsubmission procedures must be followed. Please visit Gradspacefor more information. Students should also pick up and follow the College ofMusic Treatise and Dissertation Handbook from the College of Music Graduate Office,204-A HMU.

TheUniversity Bulletin requires that the completed preliminary draft of thedissertation be submitted to each member of the supervisory committee at least four (4) weeks before the dateof the oral examination.  The revised,final version (including table of contents, musical examples, bibliography, andabstract--for dissertations) should be in the hands of each committee member at least one (1) week prior to thescheduled defense.

Itis recommended that students defend no later than the 8th week of classes inthe semester of intent to graduate. Students MUST defend by no later than the Initial Format Submission& Defense Deadline in the semester of intent to graduate.

Thedeadline for doctoral students who have passed their preliminary exams and wishto change DIS’s and similar courses to dissertation or treatise is Monday, April23rd, at 5:00 p.m.  This isalso the deadline for applied students who have passed their diagnostic examsand wish to change from MVO 6065 to the regular doctoral applied coursenumber. 

The Spring 2012 deadlines are asfollows:

Last day to apply for graduation – University Registrar, (850/644-5850)                        January 20 (FIRM)
Last day for doctoral students to take and pass their preliminary examination in order to add or convert DIS credits to dissertation/treatise hours for the current semester. February 17 (FIRM)
Preliminary draft of completed document to all committee members February 20 (suggested)
Committee returns corrected preliminary draft to candidate                March 5 (suggested)
FINAL copy of document in hands of committee 
(must be at least one week prior to the scheduled defense)
March 19 (suggested)
Last day for manuscript format submission/approval and defense date.
